Our work primarily is with Men who have sex with men (MSM), a term coined to include a wide range of people with sexual orientation varying from homosexuality, bisexuals, transgenders, transsexuals, circumstantial homosexuals (hostel boys, people in jails and other places where they do not have access to members of the opposite sex).
We provide condoms and well as medical treatment; this has often led people to question me if we by doing so are encouraging “homosexuality”. To this I ll say what I say to them,
· Our work is not to judge,
· Our aim is safety,
· We cannot ignore the fact that they are vulnerable and wish the problem away, by addressing the issue we are aiming to limit the damage caused by it and saving lives. Putting things under the mat will make it worse.
So its high time we accept and address the real issue(HIV/AIDS and other STIs) and not care about what a person does in his/her bedroom, that is his personal space, between him/her and their partner, which does not make them lesser human beings.
